Report on how to deal with insurance adjustors Accident Report Insurance Claim? Do's & Don'ts Info Request

As a personal injury attorney representing the injured with more than 20 years experience, I the following do's and don'ts whenever you have been involved in any accident.

 This list is not a substitute for competent legal counsel and it is strongly recommended that you seek the advice of counsel who is well experienced in the are of handling personal injury matters.

  1. If involved in an automobile accident, immediately after the collision, obtain the name, address, telephone number, and insurance information of the other party/parties. Write it down so you won't forget.

  2. If involved in a slip and fall or trip and fall accident, as soon as you are able, be sure to look at what you tripped over or slipped.

  3. If there are any witnesses in the vicinity of your accident, ask them to give you their name.

  4. If you fell in a commercial establishment, like a grocery store or restaurant, be sure to report the incident.

  5. At the scene of an automobile collision, if the police recommend that you be transported by ambulance to a medical facility, follow their recommendation.

  6. At your first convenient opportunity, contact your insurance agent/carrier and report your accident to them.

  7. When the other driver or the other person's insurance company contacts you, if asked to sign an authorization for the release of medical information, decline.

  8. If any insurance company calls you to obtain a statement, do not permit the insurance company make a "recorded" statement.

  9. If you have gone to the emergency room, contact your family physician as soon as possible afterward.

  10. If the person who hit you contacts you, be polite and firm, but be careful in what you say.

  11. If you were involved in an automobile collision, you may take your vehicle to any shop of your choice to have it repaired.

  12. Take the time to write down a full written statement as to the circumstances of the accident and how it occurred.

  13. Should you need to see a doctor for injuries you sustain, be careful in what you tell your doctor and be sure to give the doctor an accurate statement as to how the accident happened.
